I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my beloved, late dogs – Holly and Shilo. Long time readers will know my girls were my everything and it’s been so hard since they crossed rainbow bridge. While musing on them, I started thinking about all the names we called them.
Now, I’m not sure if this is something peculiar to hubby and me, but we had over a hundred names we used when “talking” to our girls. Most names have meanings and were born out of hilarious situations, but some are just sweet ‘pet’ names… nonetheless, all the following names meant ‘dear heart’ to us and I miss having these names on my lips each and every moment of the day.
Shilo came to us as Tatiana, but quickly became Shilo in homage to the Neil Diamond song. Then came her aliases and nicknames…

And this is my tribute to my two girls, who, by any name, were the loves of my life.
That was a nice tribute, Jess. Your girls had some really interesting names. 🙂
I’ve always had cats (as a kid I had cats and dogs). My current rescue kitty, Raven, has several pet names. I had several cats before her, including one named McDoogal. When it comes to cats, there is a legend that says every cat has three names:
The cat’s common name (McDoogal)
The cat’s nickname (Doodles)
And a third name that only the cat knows.
I wonder if dogs have a secret name, too. One thing is certain: you’re girls left little paw prints on your heart.

Thanks lovely; I love the idea of a secret name the pet alone knows. I also often wonder what their names for US are? 🤗
I love your current kitty name, Raven. I hope she’s midnight black 😁

Thanks Mike. Not sure if it says as much about their personalities, or ours 😉

A lovely tribute to your puppy loves, Jessica. We have lots of names for our pups too, though not that many! I can tell you miss Shilo and Holly terribly.

So it’s not just us then… I sometimes wondered if we were a bit… special 😁
Oh yes, I miss them so much. I guess one day it’ll get better 😓

So sweet, Jess. I know I have a lot of nicknames for Rocket. I’ll have to think about that and make a list. I don’t think it will be as long as yours, but I know there are a lot.
Big hugs to you, Sweet Girl. ❤

Aw. What a beautiful tribute to your furry family members.
I have two dogs, and each has a ton of nicknames, too. They’re part of the family, and my kids have a bunch of nicknames, so why shouldn’t the dogs?
